COVID-19 is rampant in Oakley, as it is in the rest of the country. Today, Sunday, August 2, 2020. Contra Costa Health Officials reported three new cases of COVID-19 in Oakley. The unique number brought Oakley to a total of 254 COVID-19 cases, of which three have died. Overall, there have been 594 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 residents. During the last fourteen days, 88 new cases of COVID-19 have been discovered in Oakley, numbering 207 new cases per 100,000 residents.

The City of Oakley government, in their July 2020 publication of The Oakley Leaf, stated that Oakley “is in good shape” regarding COVID-19. Just a “relative few” have been infected with the virus. That residents have little to be concerned about the illness. The article implied that the “few” infected persons were “acceptable” number, and of little concern to the Oakley government.

I know our community’s residents are a more just group than what the Oakley government portrays us. The only way to have the Oakley community administrators take our health and well being seriously is to replace the three city council members running for re-election.

In the interim, please wear a mask.
