Oakley residents owe a debt of gratitude for the courage of Contra Costa County Supervisor Diane Burgis. Supervisor Burgis is the elected official to the County Board of Supervisors for the Third District, which encompasses the City of Oakley. Supervisor Burgis has stepped forward and voted to enact legislation requiring persons to wear masks in public. She has done so in the best interests of the health of our community.

We continually hear of the value that face masks provide in stemming the spread of COVID-19. Unfortunately, some individuals scoff at the concept of wearing a mask in public and are quite venomous in their opposition to the idea. Supervisor Burgis stepped forward and voted to protect all our citizens, especially children, and seniors, despite the anger that might occur because of an ordinance wearing masks. Such is the courage of Supervisor Burgis, for which I am grateful.
