Oakley City Council Ethics. During the Oakley City Council meeting of July 13, 2021, Councilmember Williams called for a discussion of my social media posts. My thoughts she intends to censor the social media content. During the conversation, she characterized all my postings as lies. Yes, labeling me a liar from the council dais is an issue that must, and will, be resolved and corrected. I have attached a letter to Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton requesting an investigation of Vice-Mayor Pope and Mayor Higgins of failing to notify all councilmembers that Bryan Montgomery was resigning ad the two were in the process of selecting an Interim City Manager. The process, sanctioned by City Attorney Cole, was an insult to the community, to the councilmembers, including me. Vice-Mayor Pope questioned my ethics from the council dais, also an intolerable situation. City Attorney Cole indicated Vice-Mayor Pope and Mayor Higgins met as an ad hoc committee based on a 2008 Oakley resolution that authorized the Mayor and Vice-Mayor to meet with the City Manager to negotiate his salary. The resolution expired after the year. Your responses to social media posts are always welcomed on the medium, and I am sure City Council members would be happy to hear of any plans to censor such posts.
Below is a copy of the documents that were forwarded to DA Diana Becton.
