Tomorrow night, May 25, 2021, at 6:30 p.m., the City Council is to attempt to vote on the approval of the Laurel Plaza McDonalds and Quick Quack Car Wash. Yes, I am sure the Council will be allowed to vote by the City Staff, “if the council is ready.” Otherwise, there is a possibility that Oakley’s City Staff will remove the item from the dais on a unilateral decision of the City Staff.
Yes, I believe the matter has become one of privilege for a few. The Laurel Plaza developers are allowed special access to the City Staff and City Council. The developers are afforded “a special place” with their relationship with the City of Oakley. I do believe Oakley Citizens are being oppressed and marginalized in the process. The best way to address the issues Is to attend tomorrow’s night meeting virtually and let your views be known. I will be asking Mayor Higgins to suspend the three-minute limitation for public comments from Oakley residents. The mistreatment of the Oakley public has been egregious, and all the time necessary should be allowed citizens to address their grievances to the City Council.
People ask me, “are our voices heard?” Yes, in my perspective, very much so!!
